St. Thomas is a growing, seeker-informed Episcopal faith community in Chesapeake (Hampton Roads), experiencing renewal across ministries and expanding our clergy team to strengthen formation for all ages. A significant portion of our parish has come to us new to active church life and/or new to the Episcopal Church; in 2025 we celebrated 18 baptisms and 44 confirmations/receptions. We are known for collaborative ministry among clergy, staff, and strong lay leadership, and for a culture that is welcoming and inclusive—no exceptions.

The Position
The Curate/Assistant Rector will share in worship, preaching, and the pastoral life of the congregation, while providing key leadership for parish-wide formation and discipleship—especially for newcomers and families.
Primary Responsibilities
- Worship planning/leadership and preaching; full participation in pastoral care and parish life
- Lead formation and discipleship for children, youth, families, and adults
- Oversee/implement Sunday School for all ages; develop curriculum; support teachers/aides
- Plan family formation and intergenerational opportunities; develop midweek formation
- Lead baptismal and confirmation preparation; participate in VBS
- Support ministries of welcome/belonging/connection (e.g., Invite • Welcome • Connect)

Compensation/Benefits
Full-time, year-round with competitive compensation per diocesan guidelines, including full clergy family health care and benefits.
